Rebuilding the Entry Door - Stripping off the Old Wood
The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.
After long exposure to the elements, the entry door was in pretty sad shape. The outer plies of the door were sanded off in the widebelt sander. The interior was also sanded off. The exterior deterioration was so bad that some of the plies peeled off prior to sanding. The underlying core of the door was in pretty good shape. A couple of loose joints were reinforced with epoxy. Additionally and new door knob edge was epoxied on. The eliminated 80 years of war wounds, plus allowed for extending the width of the door ¼” at the bottom. Over the years the door frame spread at the bottom, causing a significant gap with the frame. The old edge was cut off using the sliding table saw, which allowed for a perfectly straight tapered cut.
