Rebuilding the Entry Door - Recladding
The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.
Both the interior and exterior of the door are reclad with new wood. A commercially purchased oak veneer is used on the inside. Watch this video to see the process of how veneer is made. The exterior plies are thicker (5 mm), and therefore needs to be custom cut. The exterior plies are resawn (cut parallel to the face) from a thick board on the bandsaw. All plies are laid out side by side, which results in matching grain pattern. For both the veneer and the plies, the pieces are taped together prior to glueing. Glue is rolled on the surface, and the door is placed is the vacuum bag. When the air is pumped from the bag the atmospheric pressure clamps the veneer/plies to the door while the glue dries.
