Outpoured Mercury Mark 35 Beverage Dispenser
About The Project
I displayed a related item, Grandpa’s 10 Horse, at an Antique and Classic Boat Association (ACBS) show. A show attendee came up to me and said “When I pull on the tiller I want a beer to come out.” That comment inspired this piece, the Outpoured. It is a mahogany facsimile of a 1957 Mercury Mark 35 that functions as a beverage dispenser.
My family never owned this model of motor, we were more loyal to Johnsons and Evinrudes. To make this piece operational however, I needed a model that had a large enough engine compartment to house the beverage containers. The Mark 35 fit the bill.
The motor holds two beverage bottles. Any beverage can be dispensed using a variety of containers - wine bottles, beer growlers, liquor bottles, soda bottles, etc. A rechargeable battery powers two air pumps. The pumps pressurize the beverage bottles, which push the beverages out the siphon tubes through the beverage lines to the nozzles. The forward and reverse gear lever switches the electrical power from one bottle’s pump to the other, letting you dispense from either the port or starboard nozzle when the variable speed throttle is turned.
Cleaning is easy; simply disconnect the two air lines and take the siphon tubes, beverage lines and nozzles to the sink. The dispenser is on a wheeled base which can be easily moved.
The Outpoured was displayed at subsequent ACSB shows and other exhibitions, dispensing coffee and cream in the morning, and Arnold Palmer lemonade and ice tea in the afternoon.
