Design Process
I started the design process by working with the customer to identify the design elements in his other furniture that we could use in the tables. I started with sketches of different concepts. The customer selected the concept that uses legs styled as Art Nouveau whiplashes (option G). I then built several scale models. A three-legged model was selected as the base design. Full size drawings were then made incorporating desired changes from the model. Because I spent a lot of time playing with the position of the whiplash ends, I made paper templates to ease redrawing. Additionally, full size mockups of the front leg whiplash that touches the table top and the leg feet were made.
