Finishing
The function of the tools I use and how they work are explained here. Specific tools used are noted in bold.
The tables are finished naturally (no stain or colorant). A base coat of shellac is brushed on which seals the wood and highlights the grain. This is topped with several coats of oil based varnish which are applied with a HVLP sprayer. All coats are sanded after drying and before applying the subsequent coat. The final coat of varnish is “rubbed out” using very finish burnishing pads and soapy water. This results in a very smooth to the touch satin finish.
