The Table
I’m working with a customer and their interior designer to design and build a contemporary dining table. Several design sessions were held to discuss the project and agree on the design, construction approach and wood. Part of this process involved making and evaluating scale models. The design that was settled on features a rounded end top with curved solid legs. The table will be veneered in flat sliced white oak, and fumed with ammonia to deepen the color. A veneer versus solid wood construction approach was selected because of the greater availability of wood choice in veneer, and the thicker apronless top and solid curved legs are more conducive to this approach.
