Red Oak Rectangular Trestle Dining Table

About The Project

This table was commissioned as part of a larger interior design project. The table was made to complement the historic beauty of the 1920’s  home and accompanying chairs.

The five boards that make up the top were sequentially cut from the same red oak log. This results in a repeating grain pattern across the top - each board looks like the other. The wood was quarter sawn, which is the process of cutting the boards with the saw cut perpendicular to the annual rings. This results in the board faces with a tight, uniform and parallel grain pattern.

The boards were glued together in a slip matched pattern. In this process, the boards are consecutively laid out and glued together along opposing edges, much like dealing a deck of cards This results in the grain pattern repeating across the face of the top.

The classic trestle base adds visual depth to the piece, and evokes the Arts and Crafts style of the house. The table is finished in clear varnish, with no stain or dyes altering the appearance of the wood - the wood stands for itself.

The table easily seats eight, and can accommodate dinner parties of ten.
