Oval Walnut Pedestal Dining Table With Leaves

About The Project

This table was made to compliment the beautiful woodwork in the customer’s Arts and Craft style home. As this is the primary dining table in the house, a key requirement was that it serves for everyday use as well as expands for hosting larger gatherings. The base table is 42” wide by 60” long, which comfortably seats four. Two 15” and one 20” leaves can be added to extend the table up to 110” long, which can seat ten.

The table splits in the middle to accommodate the leaves. In order to not break up the continuous flow of the wood grain, the boards run crosswise instead of the typical lengthwise.  All the boards were cut from the same log, ensuring matching grain and color. The high quality German made extension mechanisms makes for easy expansion and contraction of the top.

The table features a ribbed split pedestal base. The concave curves of the base visually play off the convex curves of the top. The base looks elegant and balanced both when the leaves are removed and the base on a monolith, and when the leaves are added and the base is split.

The three leaves are stored in a custom padded case. The case has casters on its edge which facilitate easily rolling it in and out of the closet in which it is stored.
