The aprons are attached to the top with metal clips that slide into slots. This allows the top to grow and shrink through the seasons. If the top was rigidly fixed to the aprons, it would crack due to seasonal wood movement. The legs attach to the aprons with hanger bolts. One end of the bolts have wood screw threads that go into the legs, and the end has bold threads for fastening the nuts.
